SciGirls, an award winning PBS KIDS series, website and national outreach initiative, is changing how millions of girls think about science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM! In each episode, animated characters Izzie and her best friend Jake find themselves in jams only science can fix. To set things right, Izzie calls on bright, curious real-life SciGirls, who put STEM to work and save the day. Izzie also invites viewers to hang out on the website – pbskids.org/scigirls – a totally safe, social networking environment where girls can play games, connect, create personal profiles and avatars, share projects and watch every episode.

SciGirls is produced for PBS by tpt National Productions and is made possible by the National Science Foundation. Additional
support provided by L’Oreal USA’s For Girls in Science program, Northrup Grumman Foundation, and PPG Industries
Foundation. SciGirls ®/© 2014 Twin Cities Public Television, Inc. pbskids.org/scigirls

Junior Master Gardeners!

Your child (9 – 12 year old) can become a certified Junior Master Gardener. We will participate in a wide variety of hands-on gardening activities that can lead to JMG certification. Additionally, club members will be the keepers of our square-foot, straw bale & butterfly gardens and learn the operating systems in our brand new greenhouse. To become a certified Jr. Master Gardener, youth must complete all 8 Golden Ray units. Meetings will focus on one or two units per session. The South Dakota Discovery Center will offer on-going opportunities to help complete the full certification.

This activity is sponsored in-part by funding from the Wellmark Foundation.

This class has four sessions:

  • March 18
  • March 25
  • April 22
  • April 29

 Early Release Days

The last Wednesday of most months are early release days for the Pierre School District to allow for educator in service professional development. We hold events on many of these days.

Parents, please stay with children under 7 years of age. These are well attended, busy  events and we cannot properly supervise unattended younger children. Your child will enjoy it more if you stay and play. And you will have fun too!
